Shaping Our Future
The Government Affairs Committee connects members throughout the state, allowing them to voice their concerns and opinions on current important issues, while providing valuable input on the direction of our government affairs efforts.
The GAC is co-chaired by two WRA members—the vice-president of the Association and another member of the Committee appointed by the outgoing chair. All efforts are made to ensure the two chairs represent different segments of the industry. This year, the GAC co-chairs are Jim Rowe of Consolidated Restaurants; and Phil Costello of Stop n Go Drive In.
The WRA’s government affairs department is directed by the Government Affairs Committee. Every major decision regarding legislation and WRA official positions, as well as every PAC dollars and donations, is approved by the Government Affairs Committee.
During the legislative session, the meetings take place weekly via teleconference, so WRA members can get involved from the convenience of their own businesses. Throughout the rest of the year, the committee meets monthly at a member location.
Any dues-paying member of the WRA is eligible to vote as long as they have attended two of the previous four GAC meetings.
